A drug-addicted veteran seeking revenge for his daughter Lenia. He wears a green beret with 22 stars and walked the razor's edge between healing and death, until the night in the alley behind The Laughing Stock when he refused the contract on the Sultan and took her hand instead—trading the berry for the memory.

Lorhud's beloved daughter. During the razing of Glareach, she was dragged from her home by Cloudwear's private security. She was violated and butchered by Aester himself as her father watched helplessly from the shadows, her blood serving as the mortar for the first casino of the new Glareach.

Chronomancer / Horologist
A master clockmaker who uses ash from destroyed cities to power his Chronometers. He allows people to relive their past, but he never lets them change it. Since the eleven-hour pulse began killing his instruments, he moves den to den through the ruins of old Glareach.
Dr. Brann Corshield
Chief Alienist / Villain
An immensely egotistical psychiatrist who ran St. Jude's Asylum. Obsessed with his own image (literally) and maintaining "order," he sought to lobotomize the Sultan of Butterflies to silence her "delusions," and built the RedLink in the asylum's restricted wing.
Valeth Vanceshire
Diplomat
A kind-hearted foreign diplomat visiting Thornus. Armed only with his navy blue notebook, he documents the corruption of the ruling class while trying to navigate a dangerous political landscape.

A grotesque, gluttonous veteran who pulls the strings of Thornus from behind the curtain. He displays the skulls of his wife's parents as trophies, a secret he keeps from her.

The brother of the triplets. He can smell fear, blood, and corruption in the steam that rises from the grates of Predymesh.

Daughter / Patient Zero
Afflicted at nine, the first human to manifest the 'Touch of Rose'. Now twelve, she remains in a vegetative state in a slum attic, her forehead marked by a crimson rose-leaf shape. She is the biological 'Zero Point' for the disease, and her mark is a beacon for a connection that hasn't been established yet.

Once an honest mason, Nex turned to a life of crime to fund the Alilberry treatment needed to save his daughter. He is desperate, guilt-ridden, and now in possession of dangerous secrets.
Avalia Krones

A brilliant strategist who secretly used Proxanian Seeds and Sansu Syrup to develop her formula. She sought to create a botanical neural network but never intended to create a pathogen. After demanding to see Patient Zero (Pellera Orlong), she realized Willare's mistake involved her secret Proxanian materials. She remains silent about the source to protect her own life and research.

A dedicated assistant who is consumed by guilt. She accidentally contaminated the Krones Formula with what she thought was a standard supplement (the Crimson Binder). It was only after Avalia forced her to look at Pellera Orlong that she realized the magnitude of her error, though she still doesn't know the Proxanian nature of what she touched.

Willare's former lover. A kind and honest man from the outskirts of Predymesh. Willare left him without explanation to protect him from the guilt and the 'rot' she believed she was carrying.

A mysterious figure who cannot speak but whose songs hold the power to stabilize volatile herbal mixtures. He provides the final, magical resonance required to turn raw Alilberry into the legendary 'Drop'.

A young boy in Craninal who lives a simple, peaceful life caring for his three cats in a hidden garden.

The Council of Three (Cats)
Prostex's three feline companions. Soot is the shadow, Ginger is the sleeper, and Moonbeam is the guardian. They provide the only true peace in the city of Craninal.

A humanoid race that predates human colonization of Thornus. Their culture revolved around the 'Communion Rites' and the biological harvesting of Sansu Syrup. Their remnant psychic frequency, the 'Proxanian Echo', was harvested to power the RedLink.

Intelligence Officer
A sewer worker's daughter who became an intelligence officer to give her father a better life. She uncovered the plot behind the Massacre of the Grenadiers but was ignored, leading to a tragedy that broke her. She was never seen again under her own name—but someone meticulous now keeps the lights burning in a dead man's office in Predymesh.

A giant of a man with a crown-shaped birthmark on his hand. He dedicated his life to the sewers of Thornus to raise his children. He died buying flowers in the City Market.

A charismatic but arrogant military officer who dismissed Niva's warning about the City Market attack. He carries the weight of the massacre and Niva's disappearance. He gave his blood and a day of his future to the Chronometer, and came back with burned palms and the truth.

The Mayor of Predymesh who was assassinated during the Massacre of the Grenadiers, after asking too many questions about the money that vanished uphill into St. Jude's.

Retired Fisherman / Former Agent
A former operative of Black Ragnarok who retired to a life of fishing in Oakhaven. He was pulled back into the shadows by a cryptic message from his old partner. He carried Freya out of the burning asylum and, for the first time in thirty years, did not look back at the sea.
Freya Haelmar
Operative
An operative of Black Ragnarok and Soren's former partner. After discovering the betrayal within the organization, she infiltrated the RedLink program voluntarily; when Corshield expanded the ward past his first twelve, she made sure she was among the new subjects. She spent two years wired in as Bed Fourteen before Soren carried her out of the burning asylum.
Vancelor "The Fox" Ivarel
Retired Agent
A former Black Ragnarok agent known as "The Fox" who retired to raise a family. He lost his left eye in the line of duty and was reluctant to return to the shadows. He stayed behind to hold a corridor in St. Jude's so the others could walk out; no body was ever recovered.

Active Agent / Strategist
A sharp, seasoned operative of Black Ragnarok who never left the agency. She fed what remained of it just enough to keep it patient, and it was she who sent the letter that woke Soren—Freya's phrase, in Freya's hand. She was never the traitor. She was the delay.
Muatti
Scientist / Defector
A money-driven researcher who clawed his way out of the alleys into a white coat at St. Jude's. Promoted to study the Touch of Rose patients after his superior went mad, he became the first to measure the eleven-hour pulse from the inside—and to grasp its horror: the Rose-Marked are not broadcasting but answering a call beneath the mountain. He tried to destroy Project Glacier's data and was marked for death.

Muatti's brilliant, untouchable predecessor at St. Jude's. Prolonged exposure to the RedLink's Proxanian Echo shattered his mind; he was committed raving of twelve hearts beating as one drum and a black sun beneath the mountain. His breakdown opened the post that Muatti was promoted to fill.
Pugion
Prizefighter / Enforcer
An unbeatable fighter in the arenas of Glareach. After the men he had crossed murdered his wife and daughter in a staged "traffic accident," grief hollowed him out and they made him their weapon—pointing him at marked men in the ring and laundering the kills as sport. The crowd knows only the name "Pugion"; the husband and father who once owned the older name is gone.
The Smiling Man
Handler / Fixer
A towel-draped cornerman whose grin never reaches his eyes. Pugion first saw his face leaning over a hospital bed after the "accident" that took his family, and has felt the same cold dread every time since. He delivers Pugion to the ring, and to the suited men who own him.
